“Microsoft is actively working with security software independent software vendors (ISVs), so that security software solutions will be available for Windows 7 Beta and Windows 7 RTM,” the software giant revealed.
In terms of antivirus products, the policy of the Redmond company will not be altered by the advent of Windows 7. “We recommend that you install security software to help protect your computer from viruses and other security threats, and that you keep your security software up to date,” Microsoft informed.
Steven Sinofsky, senior vice president, Windows and Windows Live Engineering Group, revealed that Windows 7 will move straight from Milestone 3 into Beta 1. The company has confirmed publicly its plans to deliver the first Beta of the next iteration of Windows in early 2009.
From Beta 1, Windows 7 will evolve straight into Release Candidate, a milestone which is expected to be a public release. Following RC1, Microsoft is keen on delivering the RTM version of Windows 7. Reportedly, Windows 7 will be released to manufacturing in mid-2009, while the client will be slated for general availability by the 2009 holiday season. Microsoft has not offered any details on the security providers it is collaborating with in order to produce solutions for Windows 7.
